Mold DOs and DONTs: Before Help Arrives

Finding a spot of mold in a closet, basement, or damp area can definitely cause some form of panic. After you call SERVPRO for help, these are a few things that you can do to keep the mold from spreading before our team arrives.

DOs:

• Stay out of affected areas

If you find mold growing in a closet, do not store any clothing or items in that closet until the mold is removed. Keep out of the area. 

• Turn off the HVAC System and Fans

By doing this, you will keep the mold in one area and prevent it from spreading as much as you can

• Contact SERVPRO for mold remediation

After calling SERVPRO, we can assure you that we will be able to get rid of the mold in your home and get your home back to normal again shortly.

DONTS: 

• Touch or disturb the mold

Touching the mold can only cause health hazards to you and it can also spread across surfaces

• Blow air across any surfaces with visible or suspected mold growth

This can also allow the mold to spread, which we definitely do not want

• Attempt to dry the area yourself

• Spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold

Bleach is unable to penetrate beyond the surface and get to the root of the mold, so this will not get rid of the problem completely
